longing & belonging & Grace ~ Sea & Spirit & Silence (No. 3)

Page 7

As you relax in this surrender... Grace will begin to function.... It will flow through you, in you, and as you.

The immediate inspiration for this series was the happening at the ocean; yet, another inspiration was reflections, over the last years, on my book published in 2003, An Ache for Union: Poems on Oneness with God through Love. I had sensed within myself a shift from earlier years of longing, of yearning, and more a resting, a being, in God, beyond any thought or idea of God. I had come to wonder, "Is there an intimacy in Spirit in which the longing ceases, not to return?" I can say, there appear brief moments wherein I sense some subtle awareness of a yearning to commune with Spirit, it not having the strength or obviousness of earlier years. Yet, mostly, the sense is of no longing whatever, only a knowing, a love ~ one could say a loving- knowing, or a knowing-love ~ God apart from any idea of God, without devotional sentiments toward God. Love becomes something more subtle than having loving thoughts of or feeling love for God, or anyone.

Yet, this writing cannot convey such an intimacy. One can know an intimacy so close he or she cannot know it as a thought or feel it as a sentiment. One lives in it, has been taken by it, cannot know of it.

I sense, after this writing, a marked lack of this series having fulfilled itself. I sense all written of Grace is so far from that pointed to, that this writing confirms to me, anew, how we must relax silently in Silence and allow Grace to show Itself. As says the late Jean Klein, in Who Am I?, when asked what was his state when awakened to this intimatic belonging in Grace...

Receptivity. It was absolutely non-orientated, nonlocalised, totally relaxed without projection, expectation or idea. Only in this completely relaxed state was I taken by grace.

Hence, I conclude this series with a blessing, and urge you to oft rest silently in Grace, with no method, only effortless receptivity.

May we each be taken by Grace, so awakened to our communion together, to the joy of belonging, to knowing ourselves in Love loving together as you, me, everyone, all seen and unseen. Amen.

Solitudes
